Knight-Light Charities, Inc. (KLCI) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to individuals and/or families who may be homeless, have experienced a recent life changing hardship or have been recommended as needing assistance by one of the area charitable organizations. KCLI started helping people in the Denton County area in 2007 and continues to provide financial assistance. Knight-Light Charities, Inc., is one of the few charities that disperses 100% of its donations and operates without any Administrative costs.
Here are a few case study examples of our mission
A single mother that lost her job came to our charity partner to request rental assistance for the month of August. Even with the job loss she managed to stay afloat but needed temporary help with the August rent. Within 2 days, $1159 was provided by KCLI to pay the rent.
A client was unable to pay her rent and asked our charity partner for help. She has 5 children and was forced to obtain a protective order against her abusive husband. Without his income she was late with her rent payment. Within 4 days KLCI provided $1213. She has obtained a part time to supplement her income in order to maintain her residence.
Another client that required assistance was a Veteran who had a full-time job but was out of work due to heart problems that required hospitalization. His rent was due and being out of work for a month he needed assistance. Within 2 days, $125 was provided by KCLI to pay his month’s rent.
One of our clients was homeless in Denton County. He suffered a heart attack and required double bypass surgery. In addition, he requires dialysis 3 times a week. His health issues have left him unable to work and in March of 2018 KCLI was made aware by one of the charitable organizations in the county, that he was unable to pay his rent and were looking for help. Within 2 days, $600 was provided to assist with temporary lodging while options were explored to provide a permanent solution.
KCLI was asked by a charitable partner to help a woman who needed money to repair her car and pay for insurance so that she would have transportation for work. We needed 4 days to provide $604 to the client. At times, KCLI needs more information about the requests that may not have been provided initially and it may take more time to satisfactorily answer the questions so that funding can be approved by the board members. This is to ensure that all requests are handled equitably.
A family moved for job opportunities from Georgia in May of 2018. Both parents were working and enrolled in online schools to further their educations. Recently, two of the four children became sick so that one parent needed to miss work in order to care for them. The other parent missed work to enroll the children in school and daycare. Their responsibilities as parents, put them behind financially. The charity partner asked for funding to cover the families extended stay costs for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Within the day KLCI was able to provide $715 to cover to cover lodging.
